Chitosan and animal feed nutrition

1.1 Antibacterial

There are three main antibacterial mechanisms of chitosan: firstly, chitosan can form a polymer film on the surface of cells, preventing the transportation of nutrients into bacterial cells. The second chitosan can interfere with the synthesis of bacterial RNA and protein, disrupt the normal physiological activities of bacteria, and thus play an antibacterial and antibacterial role. Thirdly, it can promote the proliferation of beneficial gut bacteria such as bifidobacteria and lactobacilli, and reduce the fixed value of harmful bacteria.

1.2  Improving immunity

In recent years, research has found that chitosan and its derivatives are excellent immune promoters, which can promote the secretion of various immune factors by the body and enhance its ability to resist infections. Chitosan can effectively enhance the phagocytic function of macrophages and the activity of hydrolytic enzymes, stimulate the production of lymphatic factors by macrophages, and activate the immune system. Therefore, chitosan is a good immune modulator.

1.3 Improving the gastrointestinal environment

Chitosan carries NH2- groups, which can adsorb hydrogen ions and bind to a considerable amount of acidic substances in the gastrointestinal tract, neutralize excessive gastric acid, protect the gastric mucosa, regulate pH, play a buffering role, and improve the internal environment of animals; Chitosan can promote the proliferation of beneficial microbiota (such as bifidobacteria and lactobacilli) in animal intestines and prevent the invasion of harmful bacteria; Chitosan can also adsorb or chelate heavy metals and other harmful substances in the intestines of animals, helping to eliminate them from the body.
