chitosan feed effect for dogs
Release:2024.10.31Chitosan oligosaccharides (COS) have the characteristics of water solubility, no cytotoxicity, and easy absorption by the intestine. Research has found that adding COS to feed can significantly improve the apparent digestibility of nutrients in piglets and significantly increase the number of lactic acid bacteria in the intestine, while significantly reducing the number of Escherichia coli. Based on the promising application prospects of COS, this study aims to investigate the effects of different amounts of COS on the apparent digestibility of nutrients, immunity, and antioxidant capacity of adult male Teddy dogs aged 1-3 years, as well as its regulatory effect on intestinal microbiota, and evaluate its probiotic effects on pet dogs.
18 adult male teddy dogs aged 1-3 years with similar body weight (5.64 ± 0.26 kg) were selected for the experiment and randomly divided into 3 groups, with 6 replicates in each group. Each group added 0 (control group), 1g/kg (COS 1 group), and 5g/kg (COS 2 group) of chitosan oligosaccharides to the basic feed, respectively. Pre trial period of 15 days, main trial period of 30 days.
Table 1 Effect of COS on the apparent digestibility of nutrients in dogs
Table 2: Effects of COS on the Antioxidant Capacity of Dog Serum
The experimental results showed that COS can be used as a supplement to dog feed, which can improve the digestion rate of nutrients, enhance the antioxidant function and immunity of dogs to a certain extent, and also have a positive regulatory effect on the structure of intestinal microbiota. These positive effects show an increasing trend with the increase of COS addition. Under the conditions of this experiment, the addition of 5g/kg COS is better than 1g/kg.
